Literature Text

In this line of service, you get used to ending lives. Greater good or not, it felt like they were normally the ones with their fingers on the trigger. Valkyrie had even begun to wonder if enjoying murder was a recruitment requirement. It was never hard for her. It was in the heat of the moment, when it was kill or be killed. But now, for the first time, she was on the other end of the spectrum. The soldier had never thought that her victims might have family, friends.

"…And lovers."

But here she was now, cradling a barely recognizable human carcass in her arms. Valkyrie had removed her helmet so that she could feel his touch once again. She rubbed his hand on her cheek softly, as if trying to call his spirit back to this world by reminding him what he had left behind. There was this horrible sensation, like in a waking dream. The world was fuzzy and Valkyrie was unable to tell if this was real or a nightmare. And amid the pain of loss, she tried to cry. To let her tears flow down her blood stained cheeks for the first time in years. But she couldn't, and Valkyrie cursed again under her breath at the lack of control she had over anything.

The sound of engines booming like distant thunder dragged her back to reality. The ship was coming to pick up team from their mission. In the end, Mr. Daedalus would look over a sterile mission report, devoid of the whirlwind of emotions that were present. The report was summarized at the very beginning for any readers who were too detached to read the full story.

"Mission Successful; Causalties acceptable. Investigate mental health of agent Valkyrie."
Some late night writing for you. Maybe it's good? I dunno'. Let me know if it interests you. Even if it doesn't, I'll probably write out a first chapter. After HoC, that is.
